Such a Time as This
I was just reading the book of Esther (its in the Old Testament) and I came across one of my favorite verses in the Bible...Mordecai is Esther's uncle and he is trying to convince her to ask the king (her husband) to save the Jews (her people) from genocide. When Esther hesitates to go speak to the King because she is scared he will have her killed, Mordecai says “ If you keep silence at such a time as this, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another quarter, but you and your father’s family will perish. Who knows? Perhaps you have come to royal dignity for just such a time as this.”
Read the rest of Esther to find out what happens next. But ask yourself today – where in your life is it possible that you are present for such a time as this? Is it possible that in each and every day God has a plan for us – for the people we will meet that day, for the work we will do, for how we respond to injustice and suffering, for how we show love to the world around us? Where or to what is God calling you at such a time as this?
